Friar Lawrence's plan with pretending Juliet was dead and such was very complex, because if one little thing went wrong, then everything would be a catastrophe, which it obviously was. Should he have thought it through more carefully, and come up with a back-up plan in case there was any confusion (such as Romeo hearing from Balthasar that Juliet is dead)?

I think Friar Lawrence should have been more responsible and planned more carefully before he advised Juliet. Juliet is just a young girl, and she looks up to Friar Lawrence and trusts him. He should have been wiser and thought it through. Instead, all he thinks about is making Juliet happy in the moment. Although they only had a short amount of time to help Juliet before the wedding, he should have come up with a way to tell Romeo about the plan so that he didn't think Juliet was dead. Also, I think he was being a little bit selfish. I think he was nervous that Juliet was going to get married to Paris after Friar Lawrence already married her and Romeo. It would be an embarrassment for the friar, so when he realized this and got nervous, he came up with a last minute plan that ended up being tragic.

I believe that the friar made his plan in desperation. Juliet was about to kill herself and he really made his plan just to try to prevent Juliets' death. I think his plan wasn't very realistic but it was the best thing to do.
