How would the relationship between the Montagues and Capulets have developed had Romeo and Juliet somehow survived? Would it have been resolved?

The feud between the Montagues and Capulets would most likely not have been resolved if Romeo and Juliet had survived. It is already known that Capulet can become very angry, especially when his plans for the marriage of Juliet and Romeo might not go as planned. If Capulet were to find out that Juliet chose the man who killed her cousin and Paris, he would probably be even more angry than before. This would not help resolve the feud and might even make it worse. The Montagues would most likely be angry with Romeo as well.

If Romeo and Juliet survived then the family feud would not be ended. The Capulets and the Montagues are both very stubborn families and I do not think that either one would have tried to forgive the other family if their children had not died. There was a mutual feeling of loss--with children that had died too young--and because their families were not able to get over a ridiculous rivalry with the other. If anything the feuding would continue to become bigger and bigger.

Though there is a chance the Montague/ Capulet could have resolved through marriage, I believe that it wouldn’t happen. If Romeo and Juliet’s plan to elope worked then I say “no” aswell because the Capulet’s would blame the dissapearance of Juliet on the Montague’s after they learn, sooner or later, that she ran away with Romeo. That would probably end in a blood bath. The two families coming to an agreement on peace would require a huge, drastic action, either by the prince kicking them out, or in the remains of a full out war between the families.

While both families obviously love their children very much, i doubt that Romeo and Juliet living would have ended feud. Judging from Capulets reaction at hearing that Juliet would not marry Paris, Capulet would have been even more angry at knowing Juliet was in love with the son of his sworn enemy. Both families are extremely stubborn and quick to anger at the other. Their stubbornness and blind hate for each other would have kept them apart regardless of Romeo and Juliet's love.

The feud would not have been resolved. if anything, the feuding would worsen because the families would hate that Romeo and Juliet were secretly married by Friar Lawrence. The hate and stubbouness would overcome the wish to have their children be happy with their preferred spouse.
